Benefiting the 20th Annual Wilmington St. Patrick’s Day Parade
January 11, 2019 (Wilmington, NC) — The Wilmington St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee (Committee) today announced that the Annual Irish Music Night will take place on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at the Reel Café in downtown Wilmington from 5 PM to 9:30 PM. Proceeds from the Music Night will be used to offset expenses of the 20th Annual Wilmington St. Patrick’s Day Parade, which will take place at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 16, in downtown Wilmington.
The 2018 Irish Music Night headlined one band and quickly sold out. To accommodate all this year, the 2019 Irish Music Night will showcase 3 traditional Irish music bands (Ewe’s Tree, Blarney Brogues, and Kilbeggan Irish Band) and two dance groups (Walsh-Kelley School of Irish Dance and Slainte UNCW Irish Dance Club). Performances will take place simultaneously on two floors at the Reel Café. There will also be a raffle for various door prizes.
Joe Costy, spokesperson for the Committee, commented that there is a vibrant Irish music and cultural presence in the Cape Fear region, and the Music Night will reflect that in addition to raising funds for the 20th Annual Wilmington St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Members of the Irish-American community in the Cape Fear region have organized the Parade for the past 20 years. It has been described as one of the Top 10 St. Patrick’s Day Parades in small cities in America. After the Parade ends, the Downtown Wilmington St. Patrick’s Day Festival (Festival) commences with music, food and activities for the entire family.
